Happy Mother's Day

Yes, I am a little late but every day you should honor your mother and let them know how grateful you are for them.
I don't have the opportunity to do this as my mother passed away in December of 1993 or 1992. I don't recall but it has been a while.
I do know this I am grateful that she chose me to be her daughter. She did the best she could to be a mother to me and in the beginning of my pre teen years I became her caretaker. I didn't know any different and sometimes I did not like it. However, I still miss those times I would lie next to her and she would caress my hair and tell Quien es el primer amor del alma mia? I miss those tender precious moments.
Saturday I did something I rarely do. I went to Forest Lawn in Cypress and visited her and my dad's graveside. I don't like doing this as it is so sad to me. I know her body is there but not her spirit and people there seem so sad missing their loved ones.
This year when I was going though my hysterectomy I struggled knowing I would never be a mother in this life. Which was very ironic as I have never really thought much about having children. I have been content and looked forward to being a step mom. Crazy huh?
However, I am so grateful for the opportunities I have had to be a friend and teacher to the primary children in church, the young women and young men I have taught in Sunday school. Most of all I am thankful for my nephew and two nieces who I would do anything for in a heartbeat.
I am also grateful for my sister in law who always does so much for her family including me and her friends and community. She is truly a role model to me of what a mother should be. She has known me since I was 5 or 6 and gives me great insight and advice.
I hope that whoever you are that you had a good Mother's Day and acknowledge any woman who has been a great influence in shaping who you are, nurtured you when you needed it, and is there to listen to you.
