Texts are sometimes the pickup you need on a long workday after a second three day weekend. However, they can also make you sad if they are unanswered or you interpret it the meaning behind it the wrong way.
This has been a long day today back at work and I couldn't figure out why it seemed so long. Then I realized well it was my second three day weekend in a row and this one was just as great as the previous one but a lot more relaxing as I slept in my bed on Friday night rather than fly in an airplane across the country with a smelly feet companion on my row.
So I was sitting working on a spreadsheet and I hear my text notification go off and I was huhm wonder who that is. It was my friend Sharlene whom I have not seen in what seems like forever. Just seeing her name on my texts made me happy and then to think that I may see her this weekend made me even happier.
At the same time it also made me think of when I lived in Cypress/Rossmoor and my evenings where I had so many people I would bump into wherever I was or could just show up at their house go to dinner, or just hang out and talk or go for a walk. I love my friends in San Diego and they are amazing but as I slowly develop relationships that I know will last a lifetime - it takes time and sometimes like today you miss the familiarity of so many years.
Yes, I am only 2 hours away but life gets in the way. Some people have moved and others well I guess we have grown apart. A friend mentioned to me that sometimes we just grow apart because it is hard to not have that connection and closeness when we are miles apart so it is easier to deal with it by becoming distant. I know it sounds confusing but I totally get it.
Lately I have tried to keep myself from texting and tried to just dial that number and talk to the person. I think texting has kept us from really connecting from people. Just like e-mail (I see two thank you cards I should have mailed over 4 weeks ago sitting on my desk). People ask me why I send thank you cards and I say because it is the polite thing to do and it is nice to get a card so randomly.
OK I derailed myself from my last point, which is. Sometimes we text someone or someone texts us and we are so busy or we don't want to deal with answering the text that it goes unanswered or we just think what why would they say that totally misunderstanding the real message behind the text. I am so guilty of this. As I mentioned earlier I am really avoiding the texting game and assumptions. Why? Well there are some people in my life that I do forget to text back because I am so busy. There are texts that I receive that I think seriously I don't know where that came from and I am confused. Then there are the texts that I send and go unanswered for days.
So here is my challenge to you today, if there is someone whose text you have not answered pick up the phone and call them. If there is a text you don't understand pick up the phone and call them. If there is a text that has gone unanswered for days, pick up the phone and call them.
And to my friend that texted me today - thank you for making me smile and reminding me that maybe I need to pick up the phone and call someone.

Missed Opportunity?
This past weekend I was fortunate to attend my nieces graduation from Boston University. It was such a short but great weekend. I took the red eye and it truly was a red eye. Arrived early and made it to the hotel and took a 2 hour nap at the most and was up for the day.
Spent the day with my family, had a great dinner and then bed for a good 8 hours of sleep. Sunday was graduation day. We enjoyed the festivities and then prepared to go home the next day. I soon fell asleep sometime around 11 pm and around 2:30 I woke up feeling congested and wanting to throw up. I waited as long as I could and around 4 am the bathroom and I became well acquainted. I thought of taking a later flight but sucked it up and headed to the airport feeling as though I had a bad hangover.
I figured its an early flight for the west coast people so we will sleep. Wrong!!! The lady one row behind me and across the aisleway talked the ear off of the kid from Harvard next to her. I felt I was sitting right next to her. After 4 hours of being in a conversation I then heard the man on his other side start giving him advice about college. So no sleep for me.
We had a layover in Phoenix and I was able to move up to the front of the plan (Southwest - Cattleboarding seating.
I sat in a row and eventually began talking to this man whose daughter Britany graduated from BU as well but the communications department. He was very very nice and we were having a good conversation about his daughter my niece and the Boston area. We started talking about San Diego and then Mr BYU sat between us. I was bummed as I really wanted to keep talking to the BU dad So we all chatted a few minutes but then we stopped.
When we arrived BU dad said it was nice flying with you take care I was like oh yes you too. We then unboarded and I was walking out when I realized he was right behind me. I thought you should talk to him give him your number but wasn't sure how to do this. So I went into the women's bathroom which was a huge mistake and quickly ran out. I then saw him going up an escalator and thought oh he is going to his car. After a few minutes I realized I needed to go up that escalator too and realized he was waiting for a shuttle. I seriously said a little prayer and asked that he would be taking the same shuttle company as me so I could somehow give him my number. So I was discouraged when a shuttle bus for a different parking company pulled up and as I reached the waiting area saw him still standing there. I froze and wasn't sure how to approach.
Then my shuttle van pulled up and went straight to him. I was like seriously?!!! So he opened the door for me and I was Hi, its so great to see you again!! He smiled and said yes, it's been so long. I was like ok now what do I say as I got in the van.
Our driver got in and then I realized from the conversationt that me must travel a lot and use that parking lot often.
We got to our lot and I was like ok where is your business card give him one of those. Tell him he's the nicest guy you have met in San Diego and it would be nice to see him again. Thought oh cheesy. Then I thought, ok tell him you are looking for a Production Manager or Cost Estimator and if he knows anyone to call you. Still not sure where my wallet was. So I failed I got out and congratulated him on his daughters graduation and to have a great week.
I thought of giving the driver my number to give to him but that seemed so cheesy.
So I start pulling out of the parking lot and get ready to pay and I think oh he's behind me again. Should I pay for his parking or should I just scribble my number on a paper and tell the cashier to give it to him. I paid and pulled out and looked at the kind of car and thought ok run back and do it but I decided against it.
So as I got on the freeway I realized he was on the freeway a few cars behind me .I switched to get on the 8 and he was doing the same. I was like wouldn't it be funny if he lived near me but seriously not going to happen. Then as I got on the 15 I noticed he was ahead of me and when I got off on my offramp he was a car ahead of me. We started driving into the direction of my place but he turned right on Ruffin into an industrial area. I thought oh he may not live by me but he works near me. I think he probably went to his office to check on some work stuff. I mean if my work was near my home and airport I would have done the same.
So I think this may have been a missed opportunity. I wish I had taken the courage pill and given my number right? What would I have lost? Nothing, instead I just keep thinking about him when I drive home and look for a Brown Liberty Jeep with 5WKS license plate (those are the only letters I remember of the plate) So please dont think I am a stalker, just a very insecure woman to give out her number to a complete nice stranger on a plane.

My mom and dad were sealed
I finally sealed my mother and stepdad in the San Diego temple on Tuesday night. I had been putting this off for a while since I wasn't sure it was something my mom would want.
Monday night I reminded myself to take their names and put them in my purse but somehow with my crazy life I forgot.
I left work at 5:30 to rush home and get the names and be at the SD temple by 7. I wanted to stop off and make sure the names were good to go so I knew I was cutting it close.
I arrived there and the lady at the recorders office was kind enough to look that they were good to go. It took a lot longer and some other names I had I had to put on hold so I have some work to do.
I got a stomach ache prior to doing the sealings but as we did the ordinance I felt an incredible feeling of peace and calmness. I even started tearing up.
I was also grateful that Brother William Lewis was the sealer and he is also the architect of the temple. I have the opportunity to work with him sometimes at the temple so I was grateful to have him do this.
I had posted on FB about the incredible experience I had that night and someone asked if it was coming to a blog near me. So here I am. I will clarify more about sealings ( I think I have explained on a previous post) and why I was not sure about doing this for my parents.

Michaud Family
So this afternoon I checked my FB and saw a status post from my cousin and it read:
Papito hoy te acompañara otro de tus hermanos, se que Dios y tu lo acompañaran en este camino. Tío Juan te vamos a extrañar. A mi tía y primos los queremos y me hubiera gustado estar con ustedes .... no me fue posible.
Translation: Daddy, today another of your brothers will join you today. I know that you and God will be with him on this road. Uncle Juan we will miss you. To my aunt and cousins we love you and I would have liked to been with you...but it was not possible.
Ironically I had just stepped out of a meeting where my uncle Juan entered my mind along with my grandfather. I work for a company that manufactures screws for the aerospace, automotive and medical industries. My grandfather made his living by making screws and so did my uncle Juan.
I saw my uncle Juan back in the 90's and we talked about his interest in Doris Day movies and everytime I saw one I thought of him. When I saw him that time he was a splitting image of my grandfather, his father.
My uncle Juan leaves a legacy of an amazing family that loves unconditionally. I believe he lived up to my grandfathers expectations.
The sad side of this is that there were 10 children born to my grandparents, 5 boys and 5 girls. One boy died shortly after birth; and now the only remaining boy is my uncle Chavo that is his nickname I don't think or at least at this moment I don't know his real name. My mother was the first daughter/sister to pass and I still have my Aunt Maria de La Luz (Mari); Maria Teresa (Chata), Gloria, and Maria Guadalupe (Pita).
My aunts and I are not very close with the exception of my tia Mari. I love her to pieces and she never asks for anything from me but rather asks what she can do for me. She is a very humble woman.
For the past few years I keep feeling this need to see my family in Mexico but I don't because of some family issues. However, I have thought my aunt Mari will not be around all my life and I need to see her and let her know how much I love her and appreciate for everything she has done for me in my life.
So as I ponder about this post and wish I could communicate with my uncles wife Carmen, I realize I am now the age my aunts and uncles were when I thought they were so old and would be around forever. I have decided that no matter how difficult some conversations will be when I visit I have to go see my family in Mexico, right?
I know where my Uncle Juan is; he is with his parents and siblings and God. I know I will see all of them one day and that I need to live up to the Michaud name.

Happy Mother's Day
Yes, I am a little late but every day you should honor your mother and let them know how grateful you are for them.
I don't have the opportunity to do this as my mother passed away in December of 1993 or 1992. I don't recall but it has been a while.
I do know this I am grateful that she chose me to be her daughter. She did the best she could to be a mother to me and in the beginning of my pre teen years I became her caretaker. I didn't know any different and sometimes I did not like it. However, I still miss those times I would lie next to her and she would caress my hair and tell Quien es el primer amor del alma mia? I miss those tender precious moments.
Saturday I did something I rarely do. I went to Forest Lawn in Cypress and visited her and my dad's graveside. I don't like doing this as it is so sad to me. I know her body is there but not her spirit and people there seem so sad missing their loved ones.
This year when I was going though my hysterectomy I struggled knowing I would never be a mother in this life. Which was very ironic as I have never really thought much about having children. I have been content and looked forward to being a step mom. Crazy huh?
However, I am so grateful for the opportunities I have had to be a friend and teacher to the primary children in church, the young women and young men I have taught in Sunday school. Most of all I am thankful for my nephew and two nieces who I would do anything for in a heartbeat.
I am also grateful for my sister in law who always does so much for her family including me and her friends and community. She is truly a role model to me of what a mother should be. She has known me since I was 5 or 6 and gives me great insight and advice.
I hope that whoever you are that you had a good Mother's Day and acknowledge any woman who has been a great influence in shaping who you are, nurtured you when you needed it, and is there to listen to you.
Happy Mother's Day!!

Scripture Study and Virtue
Lately I have just gone throught the steps read scripture a verse here or there; read the Sunday School lesson and done. No real depth or meaning behind the ritual and some days just too tired. So after my Emotions reflection I decided that I needed to rededicate myself to studying my scriptures but how?
I remembered a few years ago my stake presidency in Cypress challenged us to study the Preach My Gospel and I learned a lot. So guess what I am challenging myself to do it again for the remainder of the year.
Rather than starting with Chapter 1 I decided to pick one that I liked and it was Christlike Attributes. I read through the chapter last night and picked the attribute I want to study and develop.
Why you may ask? Well about a year ago a friend picked three words to describe me from a series that I was given. I was taken back that this person thought of me as virtuous but also flattered as I feel I fall short of what a virtuous person is. Which is why I have chosen this as my virtue to study and work on. Geez you would think I was doing my YW Personal Progress...why didnt I finish the leaders challenge to do that before I was released from the YW program in Cypress? Oh well, I am still doing it.

Isn't she lovely
My sweet young niece went to her prom this Saturday night. I can still remember when she was a toddler and would be so excited for me to come visit her. Time is flying by and today I have been reflecting as I keep looking at a family picture I will soon replace. Her older sister is graduating from college next weekend and I am fortunate to be able to attend. This little girl will soon be in college and I am not prepared - it means my youth is fading away and my future is in the hand of these amazing nieces and nephew I am priviliged to have. Soon I will be miles and hours away from being able to get a strong loving hug from this sweet girl. I love her to infinity and beyond.
She says she is my favorite but I have been fortunate to spend more time with her than her older siblings. They all came into our family at the time I needed them the most. My youngest niece was born a year after my mother passed and I was going through a rough time. She brought joy, hope and love back into perspective. She holds a very special place in my heart.

15 months and wham another accident
So up until last February 2011 I was on a car accident cycle of every 18 to 20 months. I have now lowered it to 15 months.
This Friday as I was driving to my friends house in Oceanside to go to Time Out For Women I was sitting in dead stop traffic. I was less than a mile away (most accidents happen close to home or your destination) and I was a little concerned that I was late due to some employee issues at work delaying my leaving the office. So as I was completely stopped in traffic I put my head down and said a little prayer. I asked that I may have patience as there was clearly an accident up the road and that while I was running late...I understood I would be more delayed and was grateful that I was not part of an accident. I also asked the people that may be involved would be safe and not harmed and then I got hit.
The driver was a young lady who got out of her car with phone in hand saying sorry I am in a rush and didn't see you stop are you ok? My respond was that my neck got jerked and I was completely stopped and reiterated what I was doing. She looked at me with a funny face...I guess praying for patience in traffic is not a common practice.
So this morning I called a claim in to her insurance company. I didn't have the right policy number and had to call her to get it. She didn't sound to happy to hear from me. She wouldn't give me her policy number as she said she didn't have it so I asked for her address. She did give that to me and that was sufficient to open a claim.
Am I discouraged? A little, I am wondering when this car accident karma is going away. I am also worried about how good her insurance company will be.
Yet I am grateful that my accident was minor compared to the truck and bicycle I saw in the accident. I still pray and hope the people in the accident are well this morning. My damage is minimal to what I had in my previous accidents and I got back in my car and drove away to a very spritually uplifting weekend.

Emotions are Energy in Motion
So this weekend I was fortunate to attend Time Out For Women in Long Beach. I was truly lifted and felt so many of the presenters had messages that I could draw from to be stronger and closer to my Father in Heaven.
Julie De Azevedo Hanks talked about emotions and let me tell you I had some emotions.
Sometimes people (we) misunderstand things that are said but we don't stop for clarification of what is meant. Today I made a comment and I meant it in the most positive way of being a Bigger Better Deal. The person has a big heart is better than most and is a deal because they welcome people into their life freely no expectations. Not many people do that these days and that is such a rarity and so priceless. Anyhow, while I did not define the detailed definition above it was taken in a negative physical way. As soon as I realized this I felt horrible and tried to clarify the solution. See I felt terrible (an Emotion) that set me into motion to correct things.
Unfortunately, I was faced with a big No when I said I was so sorry and wanted to explain what I meant.
This created more emotions in me as I realized how hurt this person was and it hurt me so much to hear the No. Why? Well I don't think anyone likes to be denied the opportunity to make things right. However, I understand why the person felt that way. I also learned some valuable things.
One - We may think friends and family know us well but sometimes they don't. We all have our insecurities and concerns and while we know our family/friends care about us when they say something to us that maybe sounds offensive but isn't we get upset and our feelings get hurt. The other person may or may not feel horrible about the situation. Me, I felt horrible because I would never try to hurt this person in a negative joking way. So while I was hurt by the tone and the NO it set got some energy going and made me evaluate what kind of friend I am to my friends.
Two - I hope and pray that when someone says something that is hurtful to me I find the capacity to ask for clarification of what has been said and I am open to allowing the person to explain and apologize. And if I have ever said no to a person I truly hope they will accept my apology.
Three - I lied, I was so hurt and uncomfortable. I know it sounds silly but I felt totally uncomfortable around the person I was suffering from BAWNWA Syndrome (Being Around When Not Wanted Around Syndrome) so I left for a little while. I used a little white lie of how I needed to go pick something up from my friends house. Which led to another lie when I was asked if I had fun at my friends house. Well maybe that was a half lie as I did feel better talking to someone who I confided in how I felt but it was not fun. I really should have said no, I didn't have fun and I feel awful.
This also made me reflect on how grateful I am for our Heavenly Father who never says no to us even when we make huge mistakes. Which makes my lie even worse as I wasn't honest; but I hope he knows the feelings and the reasons that were in my heart for lying.
So as I have cried a few tears of how I hurt someone by their misunderstanding my comment, and how they chose to respond to my apology. I understand how it was misunderstood, I understand why they were hurt and I am chosing to understand their not wanting to let me apologize or clarify what I meant by my statement.
I am also glad they helped me learn the following: I obviously need to be a better person and have patience and forgiveness in my heart when I am hurt which is maybe why this happened.

So busy these days!!!
I already have a lot to do today as I need to leave early to go to my shift at the SD Temple so I was playing some church music to keep me calm and focused on all the things I have to do before tomorrow and yet still have the Spirit with me.
I am heading to LB for the Time Out For Women Conference I am looking forward to this and it should be a lot of fun. However, I have a lot to do to get ready. I can't account for some money that I thought I should have but I don't in one of my checking accounts. My e-mail account had someone attempt to log in unsuccessfully so I had to change my password. Oh and I have to complete traffic school online by the 14th of this month. There is other things I have on my mind but I am putting those aside and tyring to prioritize and focus on the important things.
So the song that I kept repeating in my car on the way to the credit union is "Burn in Me" by Jenny Phillips. I love this song because it reminds me of the time I was in the stake choir and we sang it for a women's conference. It really hit home and as I focused on scripture study the words really rang truth to my ears. The
Here are the lyrics and remember - or maybe I should I say. I need to fill my life with the important things and not rush around to meet everybodies needs thus neglecting my own.
There is no time it seems
Your rushing to meet everybodies needs
There is no time to breath
How quickly I could fill my life
With less important things
I'm hungry and I'm empty
Till your words reach deep inside
I humbly drink from waters peak
That fills me with pride
Your teachings have the power that I seek
And the spirit of the things I read
Burns in me
Sometimes we think we're strong
Pushing on through days that seam so long
I try to carry on
But without the daily bread of life I'm barely hanging on
I'm hungry and I'm empty
Till your words reach deep in side
I humble drink from waters peak
That fills me with pride
Your teachings have the power that I seek
And the spirit of the things I read
Burns in me
I pray
I ponder
I'm thirsty
I read and know that you hear me
I pray
I ponder
I'm thirsty
I read and know that you hear me
I pray
I ponder
I'm thirsty
I read and know that you hear me
I'm hungary and I'm empty
Till your words reach deep inside
I humble drink from waters peak
That fills me with pride
Your teachings have the power that I seek
And the spirit of the things I read
Burns in me

Blah
I am at work and all I see out my window is grey skies and I don't like it one bit at all. I received some information about a job in Phoenix AZ and it sounds interesting but seriously? Why do I get this now. I am in a funk at work but I like my job and I like San Diego.
Phoenix is nice and it would be fun but it is so dang HOT!!
My solution - put a good cd on and not worry what people think about my listening to music today I just need some sunshine!!!

What Would You Do?
So picture this we are at Winco at the candy barrel section.
Little boy about 8 walks by us and stops between us with a handful and mouthful of M&M's.
Perri (P) - Did you pay for that?
Little Boy (LB) - Huh
P - I asked you, did you pay for that?
LB - Huh
P - you know you are not supposed to just eat that
Father walks around the corner after putting something in his mouth
P - Did he pay for that?
F- Huh
Me thinking and laughing - Apple didn't fall too far from the tree huh?
P - He has a handful and a mouthful of candy and that is stealing
F - Oh I didn't know he did that
P - and I suppose you didn't know you had a mouthful of food in your mouth
F - I thought we were at Sprouts
P - Sprouts? This doesn't look like Sprouts and Sprouts doesn't allow sampling either.
By this time I am laughing hysterically and people are just walking by.
As they walk away apologizing, Perri looks at me and says I had to do that what if I was on "What Would You Do". Keep in mind I asked her to watch that the night before.
The father was polite but dumb. I love that P does not mind calling people out and she is so lucky nobody has gone wacko on her.

AZ Weekend
This weekend was a lot of fun and quite interesting. The Monday before I was to leave I had a sore throat the next day I could hardly swallow. I made it up to Wednesday and called in sick on Thursday when my ringing ears woke me up at 2:30 am. So here is my bullet point summary. As time allows I will provide more details.
Friday - started my drive down the 8. As I was drinking lots of water to get rid of this cold I soon found myself stopping every 1/2 hour to take a bio break. At this rate I felt I would never get there. However, I made it in 6 hours. I got there before Perri was off work so I got a pedicure and then we met up for Thai food. That night we just relaxed, talked and watched TV.
Saturday - woke up early when my sil called to see if I was going to my nieces dance show. Then I received another call from my other friend letting me know he was not going to make it to the BBQ festival. This made me realize how much harder it must be to see your parents grow old and face illnesses. I was young and my mother was ill from the time I was 12 or 13. People tell me that must have been hard but to me it was my life.
I jumped in the pool laid out and then ventured out to Gilbert to meet my other friend for lunch. I waited for an hour and then realized she had been inside eating. We visited quickly and while it was comical it was great to at least see her for a few minutes.
Headed back to the house relaxed and then headed to Winco and the BBQ Festival. We had a "What Would You Do" episode occur thanks to Perri confronting a little kid with a mouthful and handful of candy at a barrell. This event deserves its own blog.
We made it to the festival and had yummy food and great seats. We even were encouraged to dance by a fun cute couple there. Got back to the house did a swim before midnight and then played Phase 10 with a music trivia game at the same time. Went to bed around 3
Sunday - woke up packed up cleaned up and left a little after 12. Stopped in Palm Desert and spent some time with my family.
I realized this weekend how blessed I am to have a good job that allows me to do fun things for my friends and myself.
