I moved to Cypress CA in late February when I was 6. I enrolled at Robert C Cawthon and had my 7th birthday party a couple of weeks after I moved here and finally started attending school. I knew nobody but a few kids came; one boy Jimmy R even asked if he could come to my party. Yes, if you are good with numbers I turned 7 in the spring of 3rd grade - I started 1st grade when I was 4 or so. I did not know many kids since I spent most of time in the 3rd grade in the language lab learning English with Ms. Knight (see pic above). I recently had an opportunity to thank her for her help at a reunion for my elementary school; I don't believe I would have done so well with English as a second language if it had not been for her dedication to helping her students. Cawthon is also where I met my oldest friend Cathy P at the playground during the summer between 3rd and 4th grade. We were inseparable and my dad often referred her to his blonde daughter. I also discovered boys when Jeff D moved here from New York; I thought he was just the coolest.
I went to Lexington Jr. High and was a band geek. Nothing really stands out from junior hight. Oh wait, I did fall in mud running to Home Economics, my parents attended every band concert; even during the day they would follow the school bus to watch us perform wherever we went and oh yes I was sent to the principals office by my math teacher for calling him a name. I thought I was in the clear since he never showed up to the office but boy was I wrong when I got home. There were more boys but I can't recall a specific crush or maybe I can.....no, nothing memorable I think I still thought Jeff was the coolest.
High School was fun and if I had to do it over again I would in a heart beat. I would just do it better. I made many friends and still keep in touch with some. I was a candystriper at Hoag Hospital all through high school. I also realized there were more boys to pick from and I said goodbye Jeff, Hello Kevin S. My first real kiss was some senior Scott S (yes Cathy; Joe J was the first but I choose not to count him...I was caught off guard by him and was like what the heck), but my first real kiss where I really liked the boy was Eric P. I believe there are many first type of first kisses. He was a bad boy and worked at the local grocery store where we shopped. He was always polite and my dad liked him so I was allowed to stay out late with him.
College found me doing the local junior college tour and eventually I graduated from CSU Fullerton. I am not sure why I chose to disclose my educational background and include my first kisses in here but hey it's my blog and I am just sharing little things about the present, the past and the future.
